Stunning setting and fast, flat running!

Many of us may have enjoyed a stroll round the scenic lake with a family or friend and enjoyed the flat surfaces, easy walking and views it offers.  So when it came to hosting a 5k with a memorable route I looked no further than Hollingworth Lake. Runnable for all ability levels. Fast, flat, scenic and electronically timed 5k. UKA licence pending and Course Measurement distance certified race.

New Hollingworth Lake 5k Series!

Due to the success of the Hollingworth Lake 5k as a one off event (usually held on Easter Bank Holiday Monday), we have decided to make this gem of a 5k into a series run weekly on all the Wednesdays of May.  There will be the usual individual race prizes but also league prizes.

The league format (like the popular Littleborough 5k and Todmorden Park Series) will use your best 3 races to count. There will be league prizes for the placed finishers, but also our usual prizes for those who show the most improvement across the league.

New Free Handicap Race!

We also have a nice bonus feature, in that this year there are five Wednesdays in May so we are going to have the last race as a free handicap race.  This is open to anyone who has raced at least 3 races in the series. The handicap race start times will be based on your average finish times (anyone caught running the last race particularly slow will obviously be excluded haha!)  Regardless of whether you’re an elite athlete or new to the sport it’s worth running 3 races in order to part of the last race.

The overall prize will be worth a minimum value of £100 and will be announced shortly.

League Prizes

The league is run over 4 weeks and this means that league positions will be awarded.

  • We will also award prizes for Course PB improvers – basically, those who show the most percentage improvement over the 4 races (3 races need to completed to enter for this) – the top 3 improvers will win a voucher, this is a mixed competition
  • The top 3 men and women from the performance league (4 races) will win a voucher

Each race

  • Vast array of spot prizes
  • Usual age category prizes
  • High value voucher prizes for the first 3 men and women
  • Team prize for fastest men’s and women’s club team (3 to count)

5k Ariel View

The New route starts from the Rugby Club Car Park and goes down hill on Rake Wood Road. This then flattens out for probably the fastest first mile in a 5k. It’s a very smooth road surface and has little traffic.  When you hit the Wine Press Restaurant you turn left on the road following the wall on Lake Bank Road. Then passing the Rowing club entrance on the path you turn into the Lake path. Here you do a full circuit of the lake, the road is a combination of compacted path and tarmac and is very good running surface.  Eventually you will come out of the path at the exit point (you actually passed this at the start). The small hill you came down at the beginning of the race is your climb to finish. The Finish is in the Car Park of the Club. It’s a very flat, fast and virtual traffic free course. Certainly one for a PB. We hope you enjoy it!

Rugby Club parking is available for only 150 cars!

Please note that each race we will be giving a donation for car parking to the club and the cost of this is included in your entry.
