The New Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run – exciting and varied scenery, traffic-free courses taking you on a tour of this historic town and some of its breath taking countryside including the stunning Hollingworth Lake.
Birthplace of the Co-op, host of the Rugby League World Cup in 2013 and Le Tour de France 2014, located in the North West, between Manchester and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, there's much more to Rochdale than you might think - Rochdale Town Hall, for instance, one of the finest municipal buildings in Europe. The Town Hall makes a wonderful Race HQ. The Half Marathon visits Hollingworth Lake and along with the 10k uses the Rochdale Canal's superb concrete Tow Path.
Whether your target is completing a mile run, doing your first 10K, completing your first half marathon or setting a Personal Best, these are the 3 races designed for you.

A perfect introductory race. People have been trying to conquer this distance since pre-war times. This route is an out and back starting and finishing from the Esplanade and turning near the beginning of Entwhistle Road.
Starts and finishes on the Esplanade by the town hall.
Starting from the Town Hall the first part of the race is a tour of Rochdale Town Centre.
Firstly there’s an out and back down Newgate, bringing you through the Town Centre via Yorkshire Street and Baillie Street. You then complete a nice flat section on Entwhistle road, climbing Befield Road.
Once you’ve negotiated the only real hill in the race you go up and round the lane through a leafy country back road to join Milnrow Road. A small trip through a nice flat straight section on Waithlands Road at the back of the canal entrance follows.
After exiting the canal path there’s a small out and back to negotiate on Crawford Street. These sections are great for encouraging other runners or checking out the competition.
You then go back up from this road onto a long flat straight section till you rejoin the route on Milnrow Road and you retrace your steps back to the finish.
The Hill you climbed at the start is now a welcome descent and a super fast flat finish (missing out the Newgate section) welcomes you. Finish is at the Town Hall.
rochdale half Marathon
Starting from the town hall you are greeted with a superbly flat starting mile. After leaving Entwhistle Road you have a small climb to reach the Rochdale canal via Belfield Mill Lane.
Here you enter into the towpath for some flat stunning traffic free miles to eventually come off at Littleborough. Here you have a gradual climb before being rewarded for your efforts by the views of Hollingworth Lake. You then run along the Lake Bank Road and run completely around the lake on the service path. Flat, fast scenic running, once you pass the Wine Press Restaurant you can go back down the hill you previously climbed and back onto the canal heading back towards Rochdale. The races are structured in such a way that there should be no runners on the canal heading in different directions. There will be only the runners in your race in front of you to contend with.
You eventually leave the canal at Kingsway Bridge and leave the road heading down Waithlands Road to join Milnrow road. At this point your leave Milnrow road and run up and down the leafy passages of Belfield Road, eventually rejoining the original route out of the race. The last 1.5 mile of the race involves a fast downhill and very flat section, eventually finishing at the Town Hall.
