Ron Hill is the perfect inspiration
to get you out and run!
Cannonball Events are very proud to be organising this fantastic race named in honour of Accrington's (and probably Lancashire's) most famous athlete Ron Hill. Ron, who was born in Accrington, won the Commonwealth Games and European Championship marathons. He has run every day for over 50 years, even after breaking his sternum in a car crash! He's even got a street named in his honour that you will pass near on the course.
The Ron Hill Accrington 10k is a race for people of all speeds, there will be great prizes for the speed merchants at the front but each of the runners will be warmly welcomed whatever speed they run at. It doesn't matter if you are running for a PB, a prize, to raise money for charity or just for fun, we'd love you to join in! The 10k is largely traffic free with road closures at the start and at the finish. For those that can't manage 10k and those too young to do so, we have introduced a 1 mile Fun Run which will be run entirely on closed roads.
MEDALS & T-SHIRTS ARE AVAILABLE AS OPTIONAL EXTRAS (at the Entry process).
Official Race Charity, donations are made based on each entry.
Say goodbye to annoying booking fees and hello to"live" Results category timing as runners cross the line !! powered by RACE RESULT TIMING.
The New course is much flatter, faster and more scenic than the previous course, but it is Lancashire after all so there are always going to be hills and downhills. We are pleased to announce that the new 1 mile fun run course on fully closed roads will be used to allow us to host Accrington's first ever wheelchair race! See Route description and maps below !!
Car Parking: The closest car park is at The Arndale, this is only a short walk from the Race HQ at the Town Hall. There is also on street parking, but there are several other Car Parks close to the HQ. See Map
all Parking is free on Sundays in Accrington.
If you park on private car parks such as a supermarkets, please ensure that you obey the parking restrictions

RON HILL ACCRINGTON 10K
The race starts on Blackburn Rd, just a short walk from the Town Hall which will be used as Race HQ. Once the gun is fired you will head along Blackburn Rd, which will be closed to traffic, towards Oswaldtwistle. When you reach the Antley Methodist Church you will turn left on to Newark St, then using Savoy St and Star St you run towards the railway where you will join the footpath and pass under the railway bridge before turning left and following the tree lined path that runs parallel to the railway. On reaching Scaitcliffe St you will turn right and follow the street to the end before joining a footpath that runs behind Hyndburn Borough Council offices. This footpath quickly joins the old railway line between Haslingden and Accrington which is now a much loved cycle path and training route of local athletes. You will spend roughly 2 miles on this path before turning left and climbing to Manchester Rd. There is a short climb on Manchester Rd to Baxenden School but it's worth the effort as you then have what must be one of the fastest last 2 miles of any 10km as you descend down Manchester Rd, Hollins Lane and Royds Ave and Royds St until turning left on Hudson St and right on to Belfield Rd. Then you will rejoin the path towards the council offices. At the end of the path the remainder of the course is traffic free; you will run along Eagle St and pass the 6 mile mark at Tesco, turn right as you hit Blackburn Rd for a perfect sprint over the finish line at the Town Hall!
1 MILE FUN RUN AND WHEELCHAIR RACE
The fun run is an out and back course on the closed Blackburn Rd, We've picked this route to make the run as flat and safe as possible.
We hope lots of children and first time runners will enjoy the experience and soak up the atmosphere of running in a town centre race. The wheelchair racers in Accrington's first wheelchair race will also use this route; they're sure to produce some fast times!
local club support
The clubs below are supporting the race with marshals. If you want to take your running further, why not join them? For all details on the clubs please click their badges.Cannonball Events would like to thank both clubs in advance.
